Firefighter Tom Sutkus
Tom has 28 years experience with the Chicago Fire Department on engines and trucks, both as a firefighter and a company officer. He has been assigned as Captain of Hook and Ladder 32, on the city’s West side, for the past 10 years. He also worked with suburban fire departments gaining knowledge and experience in rural firefighting as well as tanker operations.
Tom holds a Fire Officer II certification and an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science. He has taught classes at the Chicago Fire Academy for company officers, in-service fire companies and candidates. Tom is on staff at the Illinois Fire Service Institute currently instructing in the Company Officer Program, LP Firefighting and he teaches in the Annual Fire College Program.
In 2001, Tom received the medal of valor for rescuing a 3 year old girl from a 2nd floor bedroom in an apartment fire.
